INSTALL GUIDE · WINDOWS · STEAM
Install the KCD2 multiplayer mod.
Kingdoms Connected installs next to your game, not inside it. Unpack one archive, start the launcher and you are on the multiplayer menu of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
Before you start
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance II installed through Steam on Windows.
- Steam running. The launcher asks Steam where the game lives.
- The Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 x64 redistributable. The game already installs it, so you almost certainly have it.
Kingdoms Connected never copies anything into the game folder and never modifies a game file, so your single-player saves and installation stay exactly as they are.
Install Kingdoms Connected step by step
Download the latest release
Releases are posted on the Kingdoms Connected Discord. A release is a single archive named after its version, such as
KCDC-1.3.4.Unpack the whole archive
Extract it to any folder outside the game folder. Unpack it rather than dragging files out: the launcher updates itself using a channel file in
client\.mafiahub, and a hand-copied install has none.Start Steam
Log in and leave Steam running in the background.
Run the launcher
Open
client\KCDCLauncher.exe. On its first run it finds the game through Steam and remembers the path inKCDC_launcher.json. It updates itself if a newer build exists, then starts the game.Choose a nickname and a server
The game opens on the Kingdoms Connected menu. Set the nickname other players will see, then pick a server from the browser, or use “Connect directly” with a host and port. See which servers are online.
What is in a release
| Folder | What it is for |
|---|---|
client/ | The launcher and the mod. This is all a player needs. |
server/ | The dedicated server for Windows, with its resources. |
server-linux/ | The dedicated server for Linux. |
resources/ | A spare copy of the default game mode, to edit or upload. |
Want to run your own world? The same archive contains everything: follow how to host a KCD2 server.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The launcher cannot find the game | Start Steam first. If the game moved, delete KCDC_launcher.json next to the launcher so it detects the game again. |
| The launcher does not update | You copied files out of the archive. Unpack the whole release again so client\.mafiahub\channel comes along. |
| “This server requires …” when connecting | The server requires a DLC. Install it through Steam: owning it is not enough, it has to be installed. |
| Connected, but things behave strangely | Your mod version differs from the server’s. Both sides must run the same Kingdoms Connected release. |
| Cannot connect to a friend’s server | Check the address and that you use the game port (27015 by default). The host must forward UDP, not TCP. |
Still stuck? The launcher writes logs to logs\ next to it. Share them on Discord, or read the full connection guide.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
Installing,
answered.
Straight answers, taken from the Kingdoms Connected documentation.
Where do I put the Kingdoms Connected files?
Anywhere outside the game folder, for example a folder in Documents. Unpack the whole archive rather than copying files out of it: the launcher keeps a small channel file in client\.mafiahub that it needs to update itself.
The launcher cannot find Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. What do I do?
Start Steam before the launcher, because the launcher asks Steam where the game is installed. If you moved the game, delete KCDC_launcher.json next to the launcher and it will look again.
Does it work with the Xbox / Game Pass or Epic version of KCD2?
The launcher currently finds the game through Steam, so you need Kingdom Come: Deliverance II installed through Steam.
How do I update the mod?
The launcher updates itself before starting the game. Keep your version the same as the server you play on: a mismatch is not refused, it just misbehaves.
Can I still play the single-player campaign?
Yes. The mod never modifies your game files. Start the game from Steam as usual for single-player, and from the Kingdoms Connected launcher for multiplayer.
Do I need anything else installed?
The launcher needs the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 x64 redistributable, which the game already installs. Node.js and pnpm are only needed if you write TypeScript game modes.
