KCD2 SERVER HOSTING · FOR SERVER OWNERS

Host your own KCD2 multiplayer server.

Every Kingdoms Connected release ships a dedicated server for Windows and Linux. Run it on your PC, a VPS, in Docker or on Pterodactyl, or rent one ready-made from Server.pro or NolimitHost, list it in the in-game browser and script the game mode your players will remember.

Two ways to run a server

Run it yourself

On your own PC, a VPS, in Docker or on a Pterodactyl panel.

  • Windows and Linux builds in every release
  • Docker, Compose, Fly.io and Pterodactyl images
  • Free, and every file is yours to edit

.\KCDCServer.exe Windows
./KCDCServer Linux

Rent one ready-made

Server.pro and NolimitHost host Kingdoms Connected servers: order one on their site and it is set up for you, with access to its files so you can add your own resources.

  • Ordered, installed and running in minutes
  • File access, so your own resources still work
  • Ports and updates handled for you
  1. Start the server

Run KCDCServer from its folder. The first start writes server.json.

  2. Open the ports

27015 UDP for the game, 27016 TCP for the status endpoints.

  3. List it in the browser

Register on MafiaHub, paste the push key, and players can find you.

REFERENCE · EVERY DETAIL

The KCD2 dedicated server

KCDCServer hosts the session, holds the authoritative state of the world and runs your game mode. It is the same program on your desk and on a rented machine. A release contains a server/ folder for Windows and a server-linux/ folder for Linux, each complete on its own. The server carries its own JavaScript runtime, so it does not need Node.js installed.

Start it from its folder with .\KCDCServer.exe on Windows or ./KCDCServer on Linux. The first start writes a server.json with every setting, and the log line KCDC Server successfully started means it is accepting players.

Ports to open

PortProtocolWhat it carries
27015UDPThe game session: connections, world state, resource downloads and voice. Required.
27016TCPHTTP endpoints, including a JSON status document at /. Open it too.

At home, forward both ports to the machine running the server and allow it through the firewall. On a VPS, open them in the provider’s firewall as well as the system’s. The most common reason nobody can join is forwarding TCP 27015: the game port is UDP only. Details in How players connect.

Key server.json settings

SettingWhat it does
maxplayersPlayer limit, up to 512.
mod.levelThe region players load: kutnohorsko (Kuttenberg, the default) or trosecko (Trosky).
mod.required_dlcDLCs a player must have installed to join, for example ForgeTycoon or MysteriaEcclesiae.
server-tokenYour MafiaHub push key, which lists the server in the in-game browser.

Every key is documented in the server.json reference.

Docker, Compose and Pterodactyl

Each release publishes a Linux container image with the server in it, pinned to an exact version. The same image runs under Docker, Docker Compose, Fly.io and Pterodactyl panels, so a game server host can offer Kingdoms Connected alongside other games. The containers guide has ready-to-use configurations.

List your server in the in-game browser

A server is joinable by address from the moment it runs. To be found by browsing, register it on the MafiaHub dashboard with Kingdoms Connected as the mod, then put the push key in server-token. The server sends a heartbeat every five seconds and appears in the browser with its name, region and player count. Follow List your server in the server browser step by step.

Once it is live, it shows on the server list on this site too. Put the “Listed on Kingdoms Connected” badge on your server’s website or Discord listing so players can find the mod: the snippet is in the press kit.

Build your own game mode

Everything that makes a server yours lives in resources: folders of JavaScript or TypeScript that the server loads at startup. The server half owns the shared world: spawn points, commands, quests, dialogue, shops, NPCs, horses, the clock and the weather. The client half runs in each player’s game and draws menus and HUDs with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

If you have built FiveM servers, the model will feel familiar, though resources are not drop-in compatible. Start with Write your first resource, see what server creators are building, and bring your idea to Discord. Players joining your server will want the player guide.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Server hosting,
answered.

Straight answers, taken from the Kingdoms Connected documentation.

Can I host my own KCD2 multiplayer server?

Yes. Every Kingdoms Connected release includes a dedicated server for Windows and Linux. You can run it on your own PC, a rented VPS, in Docker, or on a Pterodactyl panel. If you would rather not set it up yourself, Server.pro and NolimitHost rent ready-made Kingdoms Connected servers.

Which ports does a KCD2 server use?

UDP 27015 for the game session (players, world state and voice) and TCP 27016 for the HTTP status endpoint. Forward or open both. Forwarding TCP 27015 does nothing: the game port is UDP only.

Does the server need Node.js installed?

No. The dedicated server carries its own JavaScript runtime. Node.js is only needed on the machine where you compile TypeScript game modes.

How do I get my server into the in-game server browser?

Register the server on the MafiaHub dashboard, choose Kingdoms Connected as the mod, and paste the push key into the server-token setting of server.json. The server then announces itself every few seconds and appears in the browser.

How many players can a server hold?

Up to 512. The maxplayers setting in server.json sets your server’s limit, up to that maximum.

How do I create a custom game mode?

Game modes are resources written in JavaScript or TypeScript. The server half handles rules, commands, quests, NPCs and the economy; the client half can draw menus and HUDs with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The default game mode ships with every release as example code.
