Two weeks in: PvP, 512 players, carts and a server-held world

Kingdoms Connected, the free KCD2 multiplayer mod, has shipped a build every day or two since it launched on 16 September. Here is what changed.

Kingdoms Connected launched on 16 September 2026 with version 1.1.0: a shared Bohemia for up to ten players, synchronised ladders and vaulting, items on the ground anyone could pick up, and an official Docker image for the dedicated server. Two weeks and version 1.5.3 later, a lot has changed.

From ten players to 512

Version 1.4.0 raised the player limit to 512 per server and brought player-vs-player combat. Players lock on to each other with the game’s own targeting, and every blow, block and perfect block is resolved once, so everyone sees the same fight. Horses gained health, can be hurt and revived, and throw their rider the way the game does.

The same release added server-owned NPCs that walk, patrol and follow orders, vendors trading on the game’s own shop screen, map blips, and proximity voice chat with push-to-talk, voice activation and noise suppression.

A world the server holds

With 1.5.2, the server holds every player’s inventory, every chest and every item on the ground, so nothing can be duplicated. Pickpocketing, eating, potions, arrows and wear on gear are all settled by the server. Alchemy works at the game’s own tables, and experience, levels and perks are ruled by the server, which scripts can use to shape progression.

Servers can track quests for a player and mark objectives on the map and compass, let scripts keep a player’s horse and dog in the world after they log off, and hold a whitelist, with an “At the gates” card for players waiting to be let in.

Carrying, whispering and driving carts

Version 1.5.1 let players carry a friend who is down, added whisper, normal and shout voice ranges, and made everyone see players sit, pick herbs, dig and praise their dog. Servers can now ask for a password, and the server can lock any chest and hand out its key.

Today’s 1.5.3 brings the game’s own carts: one player drives from the bench while another rides on the rail, and everyone sees them climb in and down. Doors now stay in step for every player, and vendors trade on the server’s inventory.

What is next

New builds keep shipping as they are ready. The launcher updates itself, so players always have the latest one. If you run a server, update it at the same time, and share what you build with the community on Discord.
